I'm shortlisted for Birmingham City University's 'Researcher of the Year'!

I'm absolutely speechless at being first nominated, but now shortlisted for Birmingham City University's Extra Mile Awards for 'Researcher of the Year'! The yearly Extra Mile Awards are a celebration of the achievements of staff and students from across the whole University, with the winner and runner-up being announced mid-May.

Despite currently being an undergrad (dissertation and project due in next week, eeeek!), it's an honour to be placed within the final eight for the category - alongside five Dr's in their study. My latest research is an examination of the London Grassroots Music Venue Rescue Plan to investigate the impact of cultural music policy on the political economy of local music - as a discursive study.

From enjoying theory modules at BCU over the past three years; studies into the Music Business and Popular Music Cultures have been valued throughout my research. Big up Matt Grimes, Stephanie Fremaux and Iain Taylor for proving me the skills and toolbox to complete my research, and Tim Will for the theorisation of regional music economies - heroes! Although the dissertation process has been overwhelming, and frankly quite scary, it's wonderful to have my research recognised.

A huge 'thank you' to BCU for the awards and to whoever nominated me. Massive congratulations and good luck wishes to the fellow nominees in all the categories - I'm beyond excited to collectively celebrate all the achievements at the ceremony!
