Busk in Brum Update

Busk in Brum has been promoting, supporting and celebrating buskers for a little while now and our network (family!) of buskers is growing. The concept is both original and innovative in modernising the busking trade in the West Midlands and my latest mission is to try and encourage more busking to fill the streets of Birmingham. (If you've missed my previous blog posts about the project, you can read all about Busk in Brum in short here.)

Throughout the production process of this project, it's been found that buskers tend to tour from city to town a lot, rarely staying in the same place which has deterred many from making themselves a profile considering they rarely perform in the city. With this, Birmingham has even been found to be a not so positive place to busk and disliked by performers due to the council policies being called 'unfair' and the nature of the city giving little appreciation.

Busk in Brum wants to change this and encourage buskers to spend more time in Birmingham, even wanting touring buskers to give Birmingham a chance and for Brummies to showcase their talents too. The Busk in Brum Resource Pack aims to do exactly this: by including info about Busk in Brum and how the service works in benefiting buskers, the resource pack also includes the best busking pitches, where to get the best cups of coffee and the best rail prices for travel. With this, the resource pack also confirms council policies in Birmingham and the reasons why people should use the Brummie streets as their stage to make their busking experience as positive as possible. From this, I hope my work will prompt people to try busking and try it in Birmingham. If buskers feel welcome and supportive, they should continue to busk here and continue to entertain (and make a profile on Busk in Brum!). I don't want there to be a time where buskers aren't sound-tracking my day and I feel it's important to be kind - everybody needs to feel appreciated and be applaud for their positive work so that's what I'll continue to do for buskers.
