Work Experience - The National Citizen Service

Work Experience (January 19th-23rd and March 30th - April 3rd)

My two weeks work experience allowed me to become a National Citizen Service Co-Ordinator. During this time I visited local schools and colleges to promote the NCS program and encourage sign-ups from 15/17 year olds. NCS is a Government funded personal development scheme and my placement was powered by NCSEM1, promoting to teenagers in Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Lincolnshire and Rutland.

Public speaking was a huge element to this placement and I confidently pitched and sold NCS to headteachers/head of years as well as to students in assemblies. I also helped run stalls within the colleges and spoke directly to those interested in taking place, offering further knowledge and taking their details. This information was collated and uploaded onto a larger database where I then acted as an administrator. Their interest was then followed up with information packs, incentives and phone-calls to confirm places on the course.

During my second week I ran a pop-up store in Highcross Shopping Centre, Leicester to appeal to target audience of 15/17 year olds and parents. As it was up and running in the Easter Holidays, we were able to engage with those eligible to take part. To generate interest we held a talent show/open mic event one evening to bring in an audience. I took charge of social media for promotion and designed flyers.
