BUSK IN BRUM

Busk in Brum is an independent project and modernises the busking trade. I founded and now direct the hyper-local site which welcomes street performers to make their own profile for their act. Recognising that cultural policy, a lack of loose change and the digital age are all contributing factors in negotiating the busking trade, Busk in Brum is a platform which promotes, supports and celebrates busking.

There is no site in existence like Busk in Brum as the idea is disruptively innovative. Busk in Brum allows valuable research to be completed into street performance, policy, geography and live music ecology whilst also collectively storing data for buskers. Buskers no longer have to promote their name, contact details and merchandise as Busk in Brum collates this information on their profile. Profiles can easily be found as the search process consists of filters, meaning that site visitors don't even have to know their name to find them. Whether they're a musician, dancer, artist or circus act, further categories follow to make the search simple and effective. Buskers can include a biography, gallery of images, videos of performances, contact details, links to their merchandise and their PayPal details on their profile to receive virtual gratuities. With a profile on Busk in Brum, traditions are taken online and can be promoted with complimentary 'find me on Busk in Brum' t-shirts and stickers.

I have built the website myself, completed the design work for promotional materials and information guides, pitched the concept to UK Music, liaised with Birmingham City Council, Birmingham Weekender Festival and buskers, promoters and journalists, generated press coverage, used SEO techniques and monitored the social media channels using analytics.
