Alongside three others, we founded Adorn Promotions - a boutique PR agency for jazz musicians in the Midlands. The mission of Adorn Promotions was to just give our artists opportunities to make them extra special– to adorn them, their image, and their following on and offline by providing promotional content, materials and events. Whether the artist required a boost to their social media in creative ways, guidance in establishing their unique selling points and biographies, or help in communicating their desired image through photography, videography or press - Adorn Promotions provided these services.

Adorn Promotions worked alongside spoken word, jazz and hip-hop artist - Marcus Joseph for six months. During this time, I designed merchandise for the launch of his EP, re-wrote his bio, reviewed his music, sent press releases to promote his EP, ran his social media channels and created his very own website with blog updates to reveal his history, personality and story.

 

As an agency, we also organised a photoshoot for fresh press shots and coordinated a launch party at Birmingham's Island Bar with a speciality cocktail named after the EP #RealTalk and mixed by Joseph himself, influenced by his African roots. To promote the event, Adorn arranged for Joseph to perform his spoken-word, inspiring music inside student unions and university receptions with a video of the performances to share online. During this time, the Adorn team were able to hand out flyers and the spontaneous performances gathered media attention by photography, journalism and music students as well as the campuses press teams. The sold-out event included a digital download of the tracks and generated both print and press coverage.

This project allowed me to develop my PR skills and event organisation whilst working with a professional client. I was able to contact printers for promotional flyers, secure the venue, organise support acts, manage the stage production and source sound engineers for the event.
